Central Memorial Inscription & Translation

Detail of the central memorial inscription carved into stone at Xagħra
Plaque detail: Central Poetic Inscription
Original Inscription (Maltese) English Translation
Bdiet nieżla bħal xita ta' bombi għaddiet bħal taqliba minn fuqna id-demm beda jgelgel mill-ġrieħi ta' vittmi fl-Ibliet u l-Irħula

Il-Karba ta' miljuni meqruda mill-Għadu li kasbarhom bla ħniena għadha tidwi u l-Alla bil-ħniena ħaqq titlob u paċi dejjiema.
It began falling like a rain of bombs, it passed like a tempest over us; blood began gushing from the wounds of victims in the Cities and Villages.

The cry of millions destroyed by the Enemy who mercilessly tormented them still echoes, and to God in His mercy it prays for justice and everlasting peace.
