Historical Monument: Is-Salib tal-Pjazza (The Cross in the Main Square)

In addition to the WWII air raid memorial, Żejtun's main square features the historic Cross in the Main Square, tied directly to the heroic actions of local inhabitants during the French Blockade (1798–1800).

Iż-Żwieten, immexxija minn Michele Cachia, kellhom sehem importanti fl-Imblokk tal-Franċiżi bejn l-1798 u l-1800. Darba minnhom, waqt it-taqbida kontra l-Franċiżi, iż-Żwieten daħlu qrib tal-mira tas-soldati li kien hemm wara s-swar tal-Kottonera, u biex juru dan is-sinjal ta' qlubija, ġabu magħhom saz-Żejtun is-salib li kien hemm quddiem il-Kunvent tal-Kapuċċini ta' Santa Liberata, illum il-Kalkara. 		The Cross in the Main Square

The inhabitants of Żejtun under the leadership of Michele Cachia, played an important part in the blockade of the French garrison between 1798 and 1800. At one point, during an attack, they came under fire from the French soldiers behind the Cottonera bastions and in a feat of bravery, they hauled away the cross which had been standing in front of the Capuchin Convent of St. Liberata, today in Kalkara, and took it back to Żejtun.
