Overview
Mushroom Rock is a small but distinctive natural formation located on the coastal path near Ras il-Ħekka, close to the village of Għarb in western Gozo. Unlike offshore sea stacks, this rock sits well above the sea on open ground, making it an interesting feature for walkers exploring the cliffs.

Formation and Appearance
The rock is shaped like a mushroom, with a narrower base supporting a wider top. It is approximately 1.6 metres tall and of a similar diameter. This unusual shape is the result of natural weathering, where wind and rain slowly erode softer limestone layers at different rates.

Landscape Setting
Surrounded by Gozo’s rugged coastal scenery, Mushroom Rock is a minor landmark along the Ras il-Ħekka walking routes. It highlights the island’s geological character and the way limestone landscapes develop unusual sculpted forms over time.

Visiting Mushroom Rock
Mushroom Rock can be reached on foot via the coastal paths near Ras il-Ħekka. It is best appreciated as part of a scenic countryside and cliff walk in the Għarb area. Visitors are encouraged to respect the natural environment and avoid climbing the rock.
